WOLVERHAMPTON PCSO Courtney Smith is celebrating his first national title after placing top in his class at a bodybuilding competition last month.
Courtney, from Ettingshall neighbourhood team, won the Masters ‘B’ class at the UK Drug Free Bodybuilding Association Open on Saturday 13 October in a closely fought tussle against rival Lloyd Stewart from Sheffield. Stewart is the reigning World and European Champion.
The win is the latest achievement for Courtney in a bodybuilding career spanning five decades and sees him fly off to the US this month to represent Great Britain.
Courtney began his training as he himself describes “a skinny youth” in 1977 at Aldersley Stadium in Wolverhampton, entering his first competition at the then Wulfrun College ten years later in 1987. Since 1999, he has competed regularly in drug free/natural competitions.
Delighted Courtney said: “I have now won five titles but this was the sweetest because it was the toughest with the World Champion contesting the title.”
