A FIVE game unbeaten run capped off with a 7-1 FA cup win has seen WMPLFC continue last season’s fantastic form.
The ladies currently sit proudly at the top of the Premier Division after four wins and a draw, including a 5-1 demolition of the Lichfield Diamonds.
Sergeant Helen Carver, general manager, said: “2012 has been a fantastic year for the football club. We gained our FA Charter Standard Award, achieved promotion to the West Midlands Premier Division, and are currently unbeaten in both league and cup.
“However, the improvements haven’t just been on the pitch. New fitness and goalkeeping coaches have joined the fold, the team have gained several new sponsors and the community football festivals for young people continue to grow in popularity. We were also lucky enough to be guests of the FA at the England Ladies 2013 Euro qualifying game and will be training at St Georges Park in November!
Back on the pitch, the ladies launched their FA Cup journey at the end of September with a home game against AFC Telford. The team used this game to support the Football Association’s ‘Kick it out’ campaign by wearing shirts emblazoned with the ‘Kick racism out of football’ message.
In an impressive cup display the ladies stunned the visitors by banging in four goals in the first half, followed by another three after the break. Telford managed to pull back a consolation goal, but the home side ran out comfortable winners.
