CHELMSLEY Wood residents will soon be able to pick up some crime prevention tips and speak to police officers as part of their trip to the supermarket.

Officers from the local neighbourhood policing team will be holding fortnightly ‘Cuppa with a Copper’ meetings at Asda’s Café throughout the summer, allowing shoppers to raise any issues affecting them or the area where they live.

The Chelmsley Wood team work closely with Asda supermarket and recently teamed up with them for an Easter egg hunt at a local park.

Commenting on the latest project PC Oliver Latchford said: “There are so many ways that members of our local community can get in touch with us. We have a local website, facebook, members of the public can speak to us on patrol, and now they can even speak to us over a traditional cup of tea.

“No matter how people choose to contact us, and whatever the issue is that is affecting them or the area they live or work, we want to know about it so we can make them feel safer.”

“We’ll also be on hand to offer some crime prevention tips. Shoppers who have driven can get tips of car security, those getting the bus may benefit from personal safety advice and our home security tips will ensure shoppers leave their house secure on their next trip.”
