Facebook first for CTU

THE CTU has become the first unit in the national CT network to have a presence on Facebook.

If Facebook proves successful, other social media ventures could follow.

The site – like others run by WMP – is open for the public to comment on posts.

Although primarily for use by the Prevent team, other departments with the CTU will contribute.

Head of Prevent, CI Ian Grundy, says: “Having seen what a difference social media has made to community engagement within our home force, we were keen to use Facebook to try and connect with a wider audience.

“There are lots of groups our engagement officers can find hard to reach, and social media could open a few doors for us.

“The more people that can log on to the page and help us spread the word the better.”

So far the site has been used to promote projects used by the Prevent team to counter radicalisation.

Community engagement events such as Mosque and school visits have also featured, along with an explanation about what happens to community intelligence.

If Facebook proves successful, other social media ventures could follow.
